Kris Draper

PARTNER

Kris is a Partner at Northern Lights Advisors, Inc. She leads the Financial Planning division of the firm where she brings 20 years of project management experience in engineering and development. Kris is remarkably process-oriented, ensuring client plans are implemented with the highest level of care and remain on track throughout our clients’ lifetimes. She undoubtedly makes our clients’ lives easier by walking our clients through every step of the financial process from start to finish.

Kris is also our resident insurance specialist, analyzing clients’ insurance policies and coverages to assess opportunities and vulnerabilities within the full context of our clients’ financial lives. Kris holds her Series 7, 63, and 65 licenses, and she is a licensed life, disability, health, and annuities insurance producer in the state of Washington. She has passed the exam for her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER designation and will be an official CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP®) come July 2022.

Originally from Canada, Kris moved to Seattle in 2006 and quickly realized this was the city for her. Having moved 20 times in 30 years prior to settling in Washington state, she’s seen and experienced all different aspects of life as a civil engineer. In her previous career, Kris worked as a project and construction manager in telecommunications infrastructure development for 8 years in the US, Canada, and Brazil. She then spent 15 years supporting building engineering projects in Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Portland, Houston, and Atlanta. Kris is also well-versed in growing and scaling businesses, having grown a large consulting business servicing the real estate development market.

Her deep knowledge of the engineering industry, insurance, and the complex compensation packages that come along with positions with leading companies in that space make her an invaluable member of the Northern Lights leadership team. Kris holds degrees in both Chemistry and Civil Engineering.

Day to day, Kris loves analyzing clients’ financial data and distilling it down into meaningful insights so that clients can make the right decisions for their lives. Kris and Martin work as a team for all clients. While Martin adds great knowledge and personal experience to financial plans that help prepare for children, education savings, and transference of wealth as a professional without children herself, Kris has a deep understanding of the different planning considerations for people without heirs.

She enjoys playing the role of project manager for clients’ financial lives to ensure that actions are taken when needed, with a combination of encouragement, celebration, and persistence that clients truly appreciate.

Whether it’s thinking through the risks of buying a new rental property, charitable giving strategies, negotiating a salary with a new employer, or looking to grow a business, Kris makes herself available to bounce ideas off and to provide guidance that can lead to success.
